I haven't yet made a spear shield build (spear/shield/magic was my goto in DarkSouls so tried to do a different approach in S&S)ĮDIT: easier to read the other posts vs correcting mine and see how the different weapons are effected) I have a character that uses the 2h magic Greatsword, and another that is an all STR build. (I'll try and remember to check when I get home. Perhaps compare it to items you already have and the STR of your character to get a good idea. I know you can find the weight of the items on the wiki's for the game. So, for a Spear or PoleAxe, you might need to increase your Str to better wield the weapon with 1h.Īs for how much, I am not sure. ![]() The heavier the item, the more Str you need to remove the X and. No slashes, effective either way (although most loose the x1.5 damage increase 1h) This X and \ are dependent on the weight of the item and your strength. (both 1h or 2h) if there is a single red \ (slash) through it, you can wield it effectively 2handed, but ineffective 1h. If you have a red X over the weapon, you cannot wield it effectively. I would like someone to verify or correct me if I am wrong. Somebody else asked about shields last night and I gave them some advice here. I recommend them for people new to the game because a good shield lets you play it really safe when dealing with a boss you haven't seen before, so you can get a good idea of what their move list looks like before you commit to attacking. You don't need to use them, but having them makes certain very difficult fights a lot easier to handle. It scales exclusively off of Dexterity and does good damage. I recommend using the Headsman's Voulge once you can get it (after you kill the Untouched Inquisitor). You can poke your enemy once while you're in the air for good measure. The combo is a downward slash, two hits from twirling the weapon around your head, and then a follow lifter that does good damage. To really dish out the pain, use a strong attack followed by up+weak, then down+weak. The strong attack followed by a weak attack is a lifter move, but does a lot more damage than the usual lifter combo (which is a weak attack and then strong). They're not awful one handed, but they're not as stylish. Poleaxes get a different moveset when used one handed that isn't as good, and I recommend using them two handed. ![]() Sure you wont have max optimal dps for any 1 particular thing but you will still do just fine and it keeps some of the difficulty of the game still relevant.Spears are about the same whether one handed or two you might as well use a shield with them. But if you do a jack of all trades you can switch up your playstyle constantly and never get bored. I do reccomend once youve had you melee playthroughs to really consider doing a Mage run cuz it is a blast and I never gave it a chance until a few months ago and I love magic, spells and incantations in this game. Just start pumping more into the stat you want and it will catch up and you wont be handicapped enough to make the game impossible or anything. Just play around and experiment with different stuff and pump stats that are convenient at the time. Nothing is that hard to kill that you need max strength or max anything unless you specifically are trying to min max a particular build but it's not necessary. ![]() ![]() I play jack of all trades master of none every playthrough almost and take all the stats up evenly to like 30 each.
